When Chef Zane Makky and restaurateur Sam Abbas put their heads together to form this concept, the partners knew something special was about to happen.
Chef Zane has been cooking his entire life, developing a love of food early on. During and after school, Makky worked his way up the line at Detroit’s Greektown Casino-Hotel over the span of six years; starting as a cook, and ending as the Chef for the High Limits Players Club.
He gained meaningful experience while working under some of the finest chefs in Detroit. Additionally, he was the Sous Chef at the award-winning Brizola fine dining steak house, and helped open and manage the newly renovated team member dining room.
Makky, born, raised, and currently living in Dearborn, says his community is “made up of connoisseurs, plain and simple.”
Master Artisan from the Academie de Versailles in France, Chef Matt studied under the Champion French Pastry Chef in Paris before coming to Michigan to practice his craft. After which he opened his own Patisserie & Crepêrie in Downtown Birmingham, Michigan in 2003.
The retail store, Cannella Patisserie, was voted best of Detroit 2008. The store is now called Cannelle Patisserie. Chef Matt’s work has been recognized by several magazines such as Metro Times, Style Magazine, Hour, and the Detroit Free Press.
